Avilee G (Dance & Graphic Design)

I chose Dance BTEC because it was practical based and I wanted to develop my technical skills as I had come from a background of musical theatre along with commercial and contemporary. I’ve loved the performance opportunities and learning about different choreographers (such as Akram Kahn, Mathew Bourne and Frantic Assembly) and their works (Like Revelations). It’s nurtured my choreographic techniques, teamwork and helped develop my understanding of the industry as well as self-reflection through continuous written work. My teacher Nicola is so enthusiastic in lessons and supportive in pushing us to be ambitious. We get to engage in technical rehearsals and story led performances with performing arts which are exciting, expanding our craft in different genres of theatre. This course has been interesting and inspiring.

I chose Graphics Design because I wanted to explore art further but through a more commercial lense. We work on two main branding projects, creating two progressive books to show development. I’ve really loved physically making outcomes, seeing my designs on tins, posters, wall art or even Jenga blocks in our exhibition; it’s so exciting. I have learnt how to use Illustrator and techniques like Lazer cut, foil, lino, vinyl, Geli print and more, which has been essential in visualising our ideas. I’ve enjoyed the end stages of both projects as I love seeing all my work come together. The teachers are very supportive, friendly and involved in everyone’s projects, giving regular 1-1s to help strengthen our visions. Their open door policy creates a warm environment where creativity flourishes.

Godalming has been such a vibrant place to learn and thrive. I’ve loved having the new Wellbeing Hub to sit on beanbags and enjoying all the amazing food options. Outside of lessons, there are so many extracurricular activities, fairs and events to get involved in. My favourite part of college has been the performances I look forward to as well as holiday themed events. College has fostered independence whilst still supporting each subject and individual. The teachers are so friendly, and college life has prepared me for uni life!

I study Dance BTEC, Graphic Design and Psychology. This combination allowed me to continue perusing my interests with an interesting balance of lessons; physical, creative and academic. They supported each other nicely, and I managed the demands of all three by working hard. My lessons have been similar to school (with a regular tutor base), if not less formal with their open-door policy and workshops. I would definitely recommend 91精品视频 to someone as the campus feels inclusive and exciting.
